USA U20 Women World Cup Qualifier vs Costa Rica

While the season starts anew with only league foes on the schedule the rest of the regular season, Tulane will look to close out its stint as a C-USA member on a high note before joining the American Athletic Conference next year. When you start Conference USA play, everything changes, Tulane coach Lisa Stockton said. Every game really matters. We talked a lot as a team about how we just play these teams once and youve got one shot at them. Going on the road for two games is certainly a big challenge for us to start the (conference) season, but were excited about conference play. A charter member of Conference USA, Tulane has won more regular-season crowns (four) and tournament titles (five) than any other current member team since the conference was formed for the 1995-96 season. Along the way, Green Wave student-athletes have claimed All-Conference USA honors on 33 occasions including nine first-teamers Defensive Player of the Year three times, Sixth Player of the Year three times, Freshman of the Year twice, as well as Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year once each. This years C-USA, however, will have a bit of a new look.

Last year, the most expensive weather disasters were in Europe, which included floods in central Europe and hailstorms in Germany. "This hasn't happened in the last 20 years," said Peter Hoppe, head of geo risks research at Munich Re, which is based in Germany. The USA's relatively quiet year was due primarily to the lack of landfalling hurricanes, which typically contribute a large portion of the natural catastrophe losses, said Hoppe.

Tulane women's basketball starts its final C-USA season Thursday

Last spring, Chicago Tribune columnist Philip Hersh predicted that Vonn could take home a gold in downhill and medal in Super-G if she came back well from her surgery. Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports Julia Mancuso The best chance for Team USA to make up those two particular medals will be with veteranJulia Mancuso. Mancuso, 29, oddly enough might be best known for being jealous of all the attention that Vonn got during the Vancouver Olympics. However, Mancuso has had great success in all of the Alpine events in the past, winning a gold in the giant slalom at the 2006 Olympics and winning silver in both downhill and combined in Vanvouver in 2010. Mancuso hasn't had her best World Cup season leading up to the Olympics, but with Vonn absent, she'll be the American with the best shot at a medal in both downhill and super-G. She should enjoy the Team USA spotlight being solely on her in those events. But the biggest Alpine star to watch will undoubtedly beMikaela Shiffrin, who is poised to be the breakout star of these games, especially now that Vonn is out.Shiffrin is only 18 years old, but has already built an impressive resume on the international circuit over the last couple of years, including winning the 2013 World Cup Season in slalom at only 17. Nathan Bilow-USA TODAY Sports People continue to describe Shiffrin as the "next Vonn," but they have very different strengthsVonn excels at the fast, downhill races, while Shiffrin's strength is in the technical races like slalom and giant slalom.

USA Basketball Honors Huskies

Sarah suffered a serious injury in August of 2013, but if she is healthy enough to jump at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, she is probably Team USA's best hope for a medal. Sarah Hendrickson has 12 World Cup ski jump victories, and she was the overall World Cup champion in 2012. Alissa Johnson Alissa Johnson was born on May 28, 1987, in Plattsburg, New York. Alissa's father is a ski jump coach, so it was only natural for Alissa Johnson to be a ski jumper. Alissa had 16 top 30 finishes on the World Cup circuit over 2012 and 2013.
